| Vermont Snowmobile Laws relating to Safety Course
Any one the ages of 8, 9, 10, 11, do not need to take and pass a Safety Course. They are allowed to operate a snowmobile on VAST trails under the direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian willing to accept full liability for the child's actions. Direct Supervision is defined as, The Ability to control the operator either by hand signals or verbally. The adult is not required to be on the same sled. Children this age (8,9,10,11) are not allowed to cross or operate on a public highway. Any one under the age of 8 is not allowed on a VAST trail at any time with or with out supervision. Ages 8,9,10, and most 11 year olds will not be allowed to take the safety course. If you are 11 and turn 12 before April 1, 2004 you may take the course but you will not be certified until you actually turn 12 years of age. Anyone born after July 1, 1983 is required to take and pass a Safety Course. They must carry with them a certificate showing successful completion of the course. It does not matter at this time whether or not they have a valid driver's license. A person 12 but not yet 16 still needs to be under the direct supervision of an adult at least 18 years of age when crossing a public highway. |
